JOHNS TROPHY, OXFORDSHIRE LADIES V GLOUCESTERSHIRE LADIES
PLAYED AT BURFORD BOWLS CLUB ON SATURDAY 7TH JUNE 2025
With the threat of thunder and lightning, and rain falling, both teams donned waterproofs for a hard fought battle.
The rain became a drizzle and finally gave up. Only two shots separated the teams at ten ends:
Rink 1 skipped by Jennie Lynch falling behind by 6 shots.
Rink 2 skipped by Pauline C-Banks struggled to retain any shots and at 10 ends was 8 shots adrift.
Rink 3 skipped by Jazzmin Alder were only 2 down and Rink 4, skipped by Helen Young fought hard for a commanding 5 shot lead.
Rink 5 skipped by Donna Grant were 6 ahead Rink 6 skipped by Carol Gaskins were level.
We were so lucky with the weather. Only intermittent showers and with no sign of the forecasted thunder and lightning we battled on.
At 15 ends the game was beginning to turn around in Gloucestershire’s favour with the lead widening to 9 shots in their favour.
At 18 ends they had increased their lead to 18 shots and at 21 ends the total score was 107 to Oxfordshire and 137 to Gloucestershire.
With 4 points total to Oxfordshire, winning on just 2 rinks and 18 points to Gloucestershire after a hard fought game.
The consolation was the weather was kind to us, the green bowled very well and the meal afterwards was excellent. Many thanks to Burford for hosting the match and for catering to us so well.
